I ought to have the circumstance in an unexpected way, and Im sorry that I didnt. Im going to make a solid effort to ensure that I dont disregard you that way again.Notice how the above statement of regret utilizes I rather than we, us or other gathering pronouns. Taking ownership of your errors (and keeping the fault on you) will promise your partner that you really are heartbroken and mindful of the slip-up that you made. After your underlying statement of regret, let your associate talk and genuinely tune in to what theyre saying. They may not excuse you quickly, and that is alright. While theyre most likely insulted by the tattle and might need to examine that further, this is an opportunity to discuss your relationship as associates and how to fortify it pus hing ahead. SQL or NoSQL data for Data Science - Viewpoint - careers advice blog Viewpoint careers advice blog
SQL or NoSQL data for Data Science - Viewpoint - careers advice blog How often have you heard that, in this (new) Big Data world, the newer NoSQL data sources and structures are the key to effective Data Science? And further, that relational data that can be queried with SQL is old-fashioned and traditional and is no longer fit for purpose? Why spend time and investment in building ETL processes that shift data from one database to another and enforce a rigid, non-scalable data model? Why not just dump all of the data in an unstructured or schema-less model? Surely that gives you the most flexibility to really find what you are looking for in the petabytes of data that your organisation collects. The reality is far more complex; as is usually the case in the field of data science. In fact the discussion is moot, as it always has been when talking about which technology is best for solving business problems. I heard nearly identical debates when I started my career over 20 years ago and I have found it odd to see such similar themes re-emerging. The most critical aspect of data science is not the technology or the data structures; it is doing things that can result in better (or quicker) decisions being made in your business. If you focus on that for just a second, you will realise that most, if not all, business decisions are made about things (or to get technical entities). If data science is going to help me make a better (or quicker) decision about that thing, then I had better make sure my data science output maps back to that thing. To be a little less abstract; if I am going to use data science to help me match a candidate on my database to the job I am being paid by my client to fill, then I better be able to map my data science outputs back to the candidate and job things (entities). I can, of course, do this multiple ways, but the reality is that the candidate and job in my operational system are going to have a unique identifier of some kind and I will need to link my insights back to those unique identifiers. So, whether I choose to Extract the data from my operational system, Transform it and then Load it to a NoSQL repository or a relational database I am still going to need to write and execute ETL processes of some kind. The decision on which technology and data structure I use does, however, still need to be made. My point here is that the decision should be driven by what skills and technology I have within my organisation rather than by what the newest, shiniest technology is. The reality for most organisations is that a hybrid solution is almost always going to provide the greatest returns and biggest impact on the business. In essence; focus more on understanding the business decision you want to influence and less on the technology you are going to use. Share this blog:

Procurement Opportunities in a Down Market
Acquirement Opportunities in a Down Market Acquirement Opportunities in a Down Market The pursuit of employment for one chief of IT obtainment prompts a new position in law as the executive of worldwide procurement. To change from working in innovation and assembling to lawful administrations takes fearlessness and creative mind, characteristics Christin Burek has in spades.Burek, who had worked for both IBM and Honeywell in Phoenix, started scanning for another position when her life partner took an occupation in Illinois and the couple chose to move to Chicago. While area was critical, Burek was receptive about where she could apply her involvement with worldwide acquirement and flexibly chain management. She didn't effectively begin investigating her activity choices on Ladders until the choice to move was unequivocal. That was in July 2008. The pursuit was quick, and it was compelling, she reviewed. Truth be told, I had two proposals to consider in October, which was astonishing in this condition. What's more, the other one additionally fell off Ladders. The offer th at fascinated Burek the most originated from Mayer Brown, a global law office working in most significant urban communities around the world. Mayer Brown had recently made the situation of chief of worldwide obtainment, and the organization was eager to fill it in London, New York â" or Chicago.New turns on acquirement For Burek â" whose foundation is carefully obtainment gracefully chain, not law â" the job introduced a few tempting challenges.Mayer Brown had moved its center, Burek stated, from working as a law association inside a little structure to running the firm like a completely fledged business activity. That introduced a lot of challenge, she said. Something that from a profession viewpoint I had not yet had the chance to do. It was right around a green field since acquirement wasn't really a conventional capacity inside Mayer Brown preceding my arrival. As chief of worldwide acquisition, Burek is liable for arranging and actualizing contracting and obtainment systems and expanding global operational productivity and benefit. This incorporates all business classifications from administrations to travel, workplaces to offices, land to IT. Also, inside the general operational arrangement, the focal point of the job is to make a key strategy of procedure for every classification. For Burek , the essential test was adjusting her methodology from her past operational encounters at IBM and Honeywell. From head of acquirement for an innovation activity to a legitimate firm was a tremendous switch up as far as scale and size of the organization. While at Honeywell, I oversaw over a billion dollars of assets, here I oversee possibly a fourth of that. In any case, as far as the general degree and challenge, it is significant. So while some examination Burek has been accustomed to working with are either unique or not there by any stretch of the imagination, she said she accepts that, taking the current monetary condition, the various conditions in the commercial center and the size of the firm into thought, factors line up well for new obtainment systems and procedures to be actualized in 2009 at Mayer Brown. In November 2008, soon after Burek joined Mayer Brown, the firm laid off 33 individuals from its U.S. workplaces, refering to the financial stoppage. The occupations cut included legal advisors just as help staff. The overseeing accomplices and arranging board truly bolstered the idea of acquiring acquirement and formalizing it with the goal that it could make a commitment to the firm in the troublesome financial occasions that we are in, Burek said. Regardless of whether there are new positions being included or else, we despite everything have an emphasis on vital recruiting, despite the fact that we needed to make the move [to downsize].A broadened portfolio gave work securityMayer Brown serves a large number of the world's biggest organizations and budgetary administrations associations, including an enormous extent of the Fortune 100, FTSE 100, DAX and Hang Seng Index organizations and the vast majority of the significant speculation banks. In spite of strife in the area, Burek stated, the firm is very much situated to climate the financial downturn since it has expanded its practices; as a portion of the parts decline, others ought to improve. Clearly, she stated, there are difficulties in that no one is seeing a noteworthy rise at this moment. Be that as it may, regions like case will go up as budgetary pointers go down. The positive in that segment is that there is as yet a requirement for lawful help in a portion of those areas.Another challenge for Burek was adjusting to an altogether extraordinary corporate culture. Mayer Brown is a 127-year-old law office that Burek said has a remarkable notoriety with the two its customers and the legitimate network. Burek was additionally pulled in to Mayer Brown's duty to free law, representing hindered customers and regularly disliked causes. It is totally engrained. What's more, a lot of hours are anticipated from every lawyer. She likewise noticed that there are extra open doors for staff to get included. In Chicago, for example, we have the Stockton School Reading Program, and any Mayer Brown partner, legal advisor or staff [is empowered to] help with the third-grade perusing at Stockton. So there is an extraordinary responsibility over the network just as evident bono work.Another factor Burek refered to in her choice: The firm is a solid advocate of ladies in the working environment, she stated, and is both family-and ladies agreeable. Burek said she acknowledges that it is regularly additionally trying for ladies to make it to the highest point of enormous law offices. From my own understanding as a lady getting through the positions of corporate culture, I figure you can see ladies settling on the cognizant decision to remain at home at one point and take an interruption in their profession, and that unquestionably has an effect when you move that into the legitimate condition. A portion of those years that you may decide to concentrate on different things are basic to the accomplice way. The way that one of the accomplices who talked with Burek for her new position was a lady was essential. That truly had any kind of effect for me, Burek said.Burek focused on the significance of obtainment for Mayer Brown as a worldwide capacity. In her past job at Honeywell, Burek had finished critical work with its universal group in turning out acquirement with a worldwide procedure, especially in Europe. I believe that was one of the choice factors with regards to why Mayer Brown picked me, said Burek, who has two college degrees. One is good to go from Michigan State, a best four flexibly chain acquisition school in the U.S. The other is in Spanish. Spanish is certainly a gigantic resource. The main organization that I worked for was a French organization, so I likewise talk some conversational French. Burek chose at an early stage that she needed to use her language abilities and work in the field of obtainment so she decided to refine her training by additionally graduating with a gracefully chain the executives MBA from Arizona State University.Opportunities for money experts in procurementBurek said she accepts fund experts with the correct blend of aptitudes and instruction have an incredible chance to move to acquirement. She had been engaged with enlisting MBA moves on from Arizona State into IBM's Supply-Chain Leadership Program and brought up that the selecting group regularly offered inclination to understudies with budgetary foundations due to their solid investigative abilities and comprehension of PL and how to deal with the budgeting. As the economy eases back, firms will be searching for approaches to stay away from squander, to combine labor, and to follow and dissect worldwide spending adequately however flexibly chain the executives. Burek noticed that the greater part of the acquisition openings for work that she considered in her pursuit were new situations in their associations. I think you are beginning to see the mid-level secretly held firms taking a gander at acquisition since they either have overseen it absent a lot of order to it, or they are beginning to perceive that they have to concen trate on it, as it truly can add to the primary concern.

Set sail on a new career this Columbus day - Copeland Coaching
Set sail on a new career this Columbus day If youâre one of the lucky ones (and have a holiday today), I hope you are enjoying your time off! Thereâs no better time than the present to think about your next career move. So often, weâre held back from making a change because of excuses. If Christopher Columbus had wanted to come up with excuses not to sail to the new world, Iâm certain he could have thought of a few things. But, in the end, he was brave. He beat such odds that weâre still talking about it today. I meet job seekers daily who have one hundred reasons why they canât get a job. The short list of reasons is: The hiring manager doesnât like me. The hiring manager is biased toward me because I donât have the right degree. The hiring manager thinks Iâve been at the same company for too long. The hiring manager wonders why I havenât been at the same company for longer. The hiring manager thinks Iâm too old. The hiring manager thinks Iâm too young. The hiring manager only wants to hire women. The hiring manager only wants to hire men. The hiring manager thinks my last job was irrelevant. The hiring manager thinks Iâm underqualified. The hiring manager thinks Iâm overqualified. You get the idea. Whatâs interesting is this. Because of our âapply onlineâ culture, my guess is that if you gathered one hundred job seekers in a room and asked who exclusively applied online for the last job they applied to, one hundred hands would go up. If you put a group of HR managers in another room and ask them how many of those one hundred online applications they had seen, I bet that very few would raise their hands. I donât claim to understand why applicant tracking systems donât work, but the fact is, they arenât great. And, most HR professionals will admit this. Applicant tracking systems are software, and like any other kind of software, they have downsides. In reality, only about 15% of people land their jobs through the online channel. Yet, weâre all applying there (because thatâs what we heard weâre supposed to do). And, when we donât hear back, we rarely think the reason is because applied online. We think itâs because the company has a bias toward us. We develop a long list of reasons why the company didnât pick us. When in reality, the reason is that they didnât know we applied. If youâre ready to find a new job this Columbus Day, itâs time to start thinking outside the box. Do apply online (so you can check the box and say you have). Then, ask yourself these questions: Do I know anyone at the company? Can I find the hiring manager online? Can I e-mail the hiring manager directly? Do I know anyone in human resources for the company? Is there any place where I can network with people from the company? Did I ever tell you â" When I was a student at Pepperdine, I snuck onto the UCLA campus to land a job interview at The Gap? Thatâs a story for another day, but the point is this. Often times, applying effectively requires us to really get outside of our comfort zone. Unless weâve had a background in sales, cold calling on people isnât a skill we have. It can be uncomfortable, unnerving, and can even feel rude at times. But, when it comes to looking for a job, youâre both the product and the salesperson. Thereâs nobody who can find you the right job but you. And, thereâs no one who knows what you have to offer better than you. So, be brave. Be willing to set sail, even when you donât have all the answers. Even when you feel you might fail. You just might like what you find on the other side. I hope these tips have helped you. Visit CopelandCoaching.com to find more tips to improve your job search. If I can be of assistance to you, dont hesitate to reach out to me here.
